John Berry is a Director with Teneo in Leeds, having joined Teneo as part of its purchase of Deloitte’s UK Restructuring business.
John specialises in providing hands-on performance improvement and turnaround support to businesses.
This includes deep expertise in developing robust business plans, improving forecasting processes and visibility, cash management, working capital optimisation and cost reduction.
John re-joined Deloitte in May 2019 after two years in Industry at a high profile, private equity owned business going through a major turnaround.
Prior to that John worked in Financial Advisory for 10 years for both Deloitte and a boutique turnaround firm.

- Accelerated strategic review of a retailer / wholesaler of specialist products (Mamas and Papas). Advice to management and PE owner covered modelling of alternative operating models, cost savings program (payroll and opex), working capital improvement, cash management and turnaround business plan development. Subsequently won prestigious IFT Large Turnaround of the Year award 2021.
- Accelerated strategic review of a listed global management consultancy business. Advice to management covered turnaround business plan development incorporating consideration and modelling of alternative operating models, cost reduction identification and implementation, working capital improvement and cash management.
- Advice to global steel business on cash management, forecasting, turnaround business plans and stakeholder management as part of high profile turnaround and restructuring process.
- Corporate development role at £1.6bn turnover PE owned steel maker with operations in UK and across Europe. Development of a new cash flow forecasting model for the Group. The implementation of cash management and working capital controls and processes across the business units and Group. Development and implementation of turnaround business plan released to stakeholders. In house M&A (strategic acquisitions and non core disposals).
