Janette Potgieter is a member of Teneo’s Financial Advisory team in London and has over 18 years of experience in data discovery and data analytics.
As a specialist in data and technology, Janette has led several large and complex disclosure engagements through the UK court system. Her experience includes litigation, arbitration, investigation and regulatory compliance support across multiple industries and jurisdictions. She has also worked on high-profile group and class claims in the UK.
Janette regularly works alongside in-house legal and investigations teams at corporate organisations, UK and international law firms and regulatory bodies. She provides specialists advice on the end-to-end process of the identification, capture, processing and review of structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data types using the latest technologies and techniques.
Janette has extensive experience in client, stakeholder and project management combined with strong technical skills formed in the forensic technology industry. She uses her experience in data handling to help clients manage and use their data more efficiently.
Prior to joining Teneo, Janette worked at Ankura and PwC, where she spent over a decade in a series of increasingly senior roles. She began her professional career as an analyst at PwC in the Netherlands after completing her studies in South Africa.
Selected Project Experience:
- Collapsed Financial Institutions: Data gatekeeper for investigations and litigation requirements. Worked alongside IT teams, legal teams and key stakeholders to respond to various data requests and data landscape winddown.
- Data Discovery: Led teams to identify, process, analyse and support the review of case specific data. Typically large volumes of data, collected from various jurisdictions and systems, utilising data analytics and advanced review analytics (e.g. continuous active learning, clustering, sentiment analysis and emoji analysis) to enhance the review phase.
- Data Breach Reviews: Assisted clients to meet notification obligation to the Information Commissioners Office. Led teams to identify and report on data subjects and data points that were compromised.
- Class Actions and Claims Administration: Managed data discovery workflows, obtaining relevant data from thousands of claimants, supported by various legal teams, and disclosures from defendants. Providing a single source of information, data integrity and reporting.
