Alex Hickman

Senior Managing Director

Alex Hickman is a Senior Managing Director in London where he leads Teneo’s Political and Regulatory team.

He advises UK and international clients on their strategic communications and government relations.

Alex spent two and a half years (2020-2022) in No10 Downing Street as a Special Adviser to the Prime Minister. During this time he led on business engagement in the UK and around the world, overseeing preparations for the inaugural Global Investment Summit, and advising the Prime Minister on his engagement with business during the G7, COP26 and the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting. Alex worked closely with government ministers, officials and business leaders to build high purpose coalitions inside and outside government to progress the Government’s economic priorities, including the net zero transition, the competitiveness of UK capital markets, establishing the UK as a science and tech superpower, and deepening the UK’s trade and investment relationships around the world.

Before working in Government, Alex was Chief Executive of a sequence of successful political campaigns, worked as a foreign affairs adviser to David Cameron when he was Leader of the Opposition, and founded and led an executive briefings business which he scaled across the UK, US and Asia.

Alex has held a number of non-executive roles, including ten years as a trustee of Restless Development, an international NGO running youth-led development programmes across Africa and Asia. He is the founder and chair of the African Mountain Research Foundation, a UK charity working to safeguard the fragile mountain systems of southern Africa, and co-founder of Plant For Our Lives, an award-winning community hedge and tree planting project.
