Teneo Hires Leading Political and Corporate Strategist Deborah Mattinson as Senior Advisor

Teneo, the global CEO advisory firm, today announced the appointment of Deborah Mattinson as a Senior Advisor in London.

Deborah was most recently Head of Strategy for Keir Starmer and was responsible for devising Labour’s electoral strategy in opposition. She is credited with creating and driving the ‘hero voter’ approach which helped Labour to its landslide victory in July. Prior to her work with the Labour Party, Deborah founded and ran BritainThinks (now ThinksInsight), a leading research and insights business, which works with clients across the corporate and public sectors to offer research-based strategic advice. Previously, Deborah was pollster to Gordon Brown, first as Chancellor of the Exchequer and then as Prime Minister, as part of a long career in research and polling, insight and strategy.

Deborah will be supporting Teneo clients on devising and implementing insight-driven campaigns and stakeholder communications strategies.

Andrew Feldman, CEO of Teneo’s UK Strategy and Communications business said: “We are delighted to have an adviser of Deborah’s calibre and expertise join Teneo. Our business has always led the way in using techniques from political campaigns to drive business outcomes for our clients, particularly through research and insights-led campaigning. Deborah has unrivalled expertise in using research insight to help organisations understand and address their stakeholder landscape, and her experience and counsel will be invaluable to our clients and our colleagues. We are very pleased to have her on board.”

Deborah Mattinson said: “I am very excited to be joining Teneo. I have known the business and many of its senior team for years and have always admired its people and the sophisticated work they do, which is all the more effective because insight is hard wired through their approach. I was particularly attracted by the high-quality clients they work with and the breadth of communications challenges on which they advise. I look forward to bringing my experience of evidenced based campaigning to the Teneo team.”

Notes to editors:

  • Deborah will not be undertaking any political lobbying on behalf of our clients, and Teneo is fully compliant with the PRCA Code of Conduct in everything we do.
  • Deborah will comply in all respects with the House of Lords Code of Conduct and in particular will not be providing parliamentary advice and services for Teneo clients.
