Alex Hickman Joins Teneo as a Senior Managing Director

Teneo, the global CEO advisory firm, today announced the appointment of Alex Hickman, Downing Street’s former business engagement lead, as a Senior Managing Director.

After two and a half years at the heart of government, Alex will join Teneo’s Strategy & Communications team in London. He will lead Teneo’s Political practice in the UK.

Alex began his political career with the Business for Sterling campaign, worked as an adviser to David Cameron while he served as opposition leader and played a key role in the 2016 Vote Leave campaign. Alex has also worked as a journalist for the Economist Intelligence Unit and spent nine years as founder and CEO of an international advisory business. In March 2020, he became the Prime Minister’s Special Adviser on business leading on engagement in the UK and around the world.

Acting on behalf of the former PM, Boris Johnson, Alex worked closely with Secretaries of State and Ministers, designing and implementing policy and building coalitions inside and outside government. Alex leveraged No10’s convening power to progress the UK’s post-Brexit business priorities, including becoming a science & tech superpower, growing investment in green infrastructure, making UK capital markets more competitive, levelling up and improving UK regulation.

Teneo advises the leaders of some of the world’s biggest businesses as they make decisions that will materially impact their company and their reputation. Alex brings a wealth of political, campaigning and business advisory experience.

Nick Claydon, CEO, Teneo UK said, “In an era of unprecedent political turbulence, clients need political expertise now more than ever. We’re delighted that Alex has joined us, bringing with him unrivalled insight to lead our Political practice. His experience both before and during his time at No10 will be invaluable.”

Alex Hickman said, “There could not be a more exciting time to join a firm like Teneo. Alongside acute economic challenges, business-leaders must also navigate digitalisation, decarbonisation and supply chain disruption. It’s imperative that CEOs continue to engage with government to meet the challenges and opportunities of the next few years. I am thrilled to be joining a firm that advises the leaders of some of the world’s largest and most high-profile brands and look forward to working alongside talented colleagues across the firm.”
